Artesischer aquifer
Ein artesischer Aquifer ist ein beschränkter Grundwasserleiter mit Grundwasser unter positivem Druck. Dies führt dazu, dass der Wasserstand in einem Brunnen bis zu einem Punkt steigt, an dem das hydrostatische Gleichgewicht erreicht ist. Diese Art von Brunnen wird als artesischer Brunnen bezeichnet. Wasser kann sogar die Bodenoberfläche erreichen, wenn der natürliche Druck hoch genug ist, in welchem Fall der Brunnen ein fließender artesischer Brunnen genannt wird. Ein Grundwasserleiter ist eine geologische Schicht aus porösem und durchlässigem Material wie Sand und Kies, Kalkstein oder Sandstein, durch die Wasser fließt und gelagert wird. Ein artesischer Grundwasserleiter ist zwischen undurchlässigen Gesteinen oder Lehm beschränkt, die diesen positiven Druck verursacht. Nicht alle Grundwasserleiter sind artesisch, weil der Wassertisch die Oberfläche erreichen muss. Das Aufladen von Grundwasserleitern geschieht, wenn der Wassertisch in seiner Aufladezone auf einer höheren Höhe liegt als der Kopf des Brunnens. Fossile Wasser-Grundwasserleiter können auch artesisch sein, wenn sie unter ausreichender Druck von den umliegenden Felsen sind. Dies ist ähnlich wie viele neu gezapfte Ölquellen unter Druck gesetzt werden. Artesische Brunnen wurden nach der ehemaligen Provinz Artois in Frankreich benannt, wo viele artesische Brunnen von karthagischen Mönchen aus 1126 gebohrt wurden.
