Atavismus
Atavismus ist die Tendenz, zum Ahnenart zurückzukehren. In der Biologie ist ein Atavismus ein evolutionärer Rückfall, wie z. B. Züge, die schon vor Generationen verschwunden waren. Atavismen können auf verschiedene Weise auftreten. Ein Weg ist, wenn Gene für bisher existierende phänotypische Merkmale in der DNA erhalten bleiben, und diese werden durch eine Mutation ausgedrückt, die entweder die übergeordneten Gene für die neuen Züge klopft oder die alten Züge überschreibt, um die neue zu überschreiben. Eine Reihe von Merkmalen kann infolge der Verkürzung der fetalen Entwicklung eines Merkmals oder durch Verlängerung desselben variieren. In solch einem Fall kann eine Verschiebung in der Zeit, in der sich ein Merkmal entwickeln kann, bevor es fixiert ist, einen angestammten Phänotyp hervorbringen. In den Sozialwissenschaften ist der Atavismus eine kulturelle Tendenz - zum Beispiel Menschen in der modernen Zeit, die auf die Denkweisen und Handeln einer früheren Zeit zurückgreifen. Das Wort Atavismus stammt aus dem lateinischen Atavus. Ein atavus ist ein Ur-Ur-Ur-Großvater oder allgemeiner ein Ahne.
