Atrazin
Atrazin ist ein Herbizid der Triazin-Klasse. Atrazin wird verwendet, um vor und nach dem Auftauchen breitblättern Unkraut in Kulturen wie Mais und Zuckerrohr und auf Rasen, wie Golfplätze und Wohn-Rasen zu verhindern. Es ist eines der am häufigsten verwendeten Herbizide in den USA und in der australischen Landwirtschaft. In der Europäischen Union wurde 2004 wegen anhaltender Grundwasserkontamination verboten. Ab 2001 war Atrazin das am häufigsten erkannte Pestizid, das Trinkwasser in den Vereinigten Staaten verunreinigte .: 42 Studien deuten darauf hin, dass es ein endokriner Disruptor ist, ein Agent, der das natürliche Hormonsystem bei Tieren verändern kann. Im Jahr 2006 stellte die US-amerikanische Umweltschutzbehörde fest, dass "die mit den Pestizidrückständen verbundenen Risiken eine vernünftige Sicherheit ohne Schaden darstellen", und im Jahr 2007 sagte die EPA, dass Atrazin die amphibische sexuelle Entwicklung nicht nachteilig beeinflusst und dass keine zusätzlichen Tests gerechtfertigt seien. Die EPA eröffnete im Jahr 2009 eine neue Überprüfung, die folgerte, dass "die wissenschaftlichen Grundlagen der Agentur für ihre Regulierung von Atrazin robust sind und die Prävention von Expositionswerten gewährleisten, die zu reproduktiven Wirkungen beim Menschen führen können.
