Avicenna
Ibn Sina, allgemein bekannt als Ibn Sīnā, oder in arabischer Schrift Abū'Alī al-Ḥusayn ibn'Abd Allāh ibn Al-Hasan ibn Ali ibn Sīnā oder von seinem lateinischen Namen Avicenna, war ein persischer Polymath, der fast 450 Werke in einem breiten Spektrum schrieb Von Themen, von denen rund 240 überlebt haben. Insbesondere konzentrieren sich 150 seiner überlebenden Werke auf die Philosophie und 40 davon konzentrieren sich auf die Medizin. Seine berühmtesten Werke sind das Buch der Heilung, eine große philosophische und wissenschaftliche Enzyklopädie, und der Canon der Medizin, die ein Standard medizinischer Text an vielen mittelalterlichen Universitäten war. Der Canon of Medicine wurde bereits 1650 als Lehrbuch an den Universitäten von Montpellier und Leuven verwendet. Ibn Sīnās Canon of Medicine bietet einen Überblick über alle Aspekte der Medizin nach den Prinzipien von Galen. Sein Korpus schließt auch das Schreiben auf Philosophie, Astronomie, Alchimie, Geologie, Psychologie, islamische Theologie, Logik, Mathematik, Physik sowie Poesie ein. Er gilt als der berühmteste und einflussreichste Polymat des islamischen Goldenen Zeitalters.
