Bacitracin
Bacitracin ist eine Mischung von verwandten cyclischen Polypeptiden, die von Organismen der Licheniformis-Gruppe von Bacillus subtilis var Tracy produziert werden, die zuerst 1945 isoliert wurden. Diese Peptide stören sowohl grampositive als auch gramnegative Bakterien, indem sie die Zellwand und die Peptidoglycan-Synthese stören. Bacitracin wird als topische Zubereitung verwendet. In Bezug auf Nebenwirkungen nur im Vergleich zu Bacitracin, weißes Petrolatum besitzt eine ebenso niedrige Infektionsrate und minimale Gefahr für die Induktion von Allergien. Die weit verbreitete Verwendung von Bacitracin, auch bei kleinen Wunden, wo es nicht sinnvoll ist, trägt zur Antibiotikaresistenz bei. Diese weit verbreitete Verwendung hat dazu beigetragen, die Entstehung von MRSA-Bakterien, speziell die hoch letale ST8: USA300 Stamm.
