Basanit / bæsənaɪt / ist ein magmatischer, vulkanischer Fels mit aphanitischer bis porphyritischer Textur. Die mineralische Versammlung ist gewöhnlich reichlich Feldspathoide, Plagioklas und Augit, zusammen mit Olivin und kleineren Eisen-Titan-Oxiden wie Ilmenit und Magnetit-Ulvospinel; Es kann ein kleiner Alkali-Feldspat vorhanden sein, wie durch die Position des Feldes für Basanit im QAPF-Diagramm dargestellt wird. Clinopyroxen und Olivin sind als Phänomene und in der Matrix üblich. Der Augit enthält deutlich größeres Titan, Aluminium und Natrium als das im typischen tholeiitischen Basalt. Quarz ist abwesend, ebenso Orthopyroxen und Taube. Chemisch sind die Basaniten in Siliciumdioxid und in der Alkalik hoch im Vergleich zu Basalt, was typischerweise mehr SiO \u0026 sub2; enthält, wie auf dem für die TAS-Klassifikation verwendeten Diagramm offensichtlich ist. Nephelinit ist noch reicher an Na2O plus K2O im Vergleich zu SiO2. Basaniten treten sowohl auf Kontinenten als auch auf Ozeaninseln auf. Zum Beispiel werden sie zusammen mit Basalts von Hotspot-Vulkanismus auf den Hawaiianischen und Komoren-Inseln produziert.
