Ba'ath Party
Die arabisch-sozialistische Baath-Partei war eine politische Partei, die in Syrien von Michel Aflaq, Salah al-Din al-Bitar und Gesellschaftern von Zaki al-Arsuzi gegründet wurde. Die Partei trat Ba'athismus ein, die eine Ideologie ist, die den arabischen Nationalisten, den Pan-Arabismus, die arabisch-sozialistischen und antiimperialistischen Interessen vermischt. Ba'athismus fordert die Vereinigung der arabischen Welt in einem einzigen Staat. Sein Motto "Einheit, Freiheit, Sozialismus" bezieht sich auf die arabische Einheit und die Freiheit von nicht-arabischer Kontrolle und Einmischung. Die Partei wurde durch die Fusion der arabischen Baath-Bewegung, angeführt von Aflaq und al-Bitar, und dem arabischen Baath, der von al-Arsuzi geführt wurde, am 7. April 1947 als die arabische Baath-Partei gegründet. Die Partei hat schnell Niederlassungen in anderen arabischen Ländern aufgebaut, obwohl sie nur Macht im Irak und Syrien haben würde. Die arabische Baath-Partei verschmolz mit der arabischen Sozialistischen Partei, die von Akram al-Hawrani geführt wurde, 1952, um die arabisch-sozialistische Baath-Partei zu bilden. Die neu gegründete Partei war ein relativer Erfolg und wurde die zweitgrößte Partei im syrischen Parlament bei den Wahlen von 1954. Dies, gepaart mit der zunehmenden Stärke der syrischen Kommunistischen Partei, führte zur Gründung der Vereinigten Arabischen Republik, einer Vereinigung von Ägypten und Syrien.
