Benthoskop

Das Benthoskop war ein Tiefsee-Tauchboot, das von Otis Barton nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg entworfen wurde. Er stellte die Watson-Stillman-Gesellschaft an, die früher seine und William Beebe's Badegebäude gebaut hatte, um das neue Design des tiefen Tauchschiffs zu produzieren, das aus dem griechischen Präfix-Benthos oder unten benannt wurde. Das Benthoskop war im wesentlichen ähnlich der Badesphäre, wurde aber gebaut, um höheren Drücken zu widerstehen, mit einer Brutentiefe von 10.000 Fuß. Sein Innendurchmesser betrug 4,5 Fuß, und seine Wandstärke betrug 1,75 Zoll. Es wog 7 Tonnen, eine Gewichtszunahme von 1.600 Pfund über die Badespitze. Zwei Fenster aus verschmolzenem Quarz wurden installiert, eine geradeaus und die andere schräg nach unten.
