Pickeringia
Pickeringia ist eine monotypische Gattung blühender Pflanzen in der Hülsenfruchtfamilie, Fabaceae. Es wurde vor kurzem dem ungeordneten, monophyletischen Cladrastis clade zugewiesen. Es wurde nach dem Naturforscher Charles Pickering benannt. Seine einzige Art ist Pickeringia montana, die durch den allgemeinen Namen chaparral Erbse bekannt ist. Es ist endemisch nach Kalifornien in den Vereinigten Staaten, wo seine Verteilung erstreckt sich entlang der Coast Ranges zu den Halbinsel Ranges, sowie entlang der Sierra Nevada Ausläufern. Es ist auch aus der Insel Santa Cruz bekannt. Es ist eine von sehr wenigen Hülsenfrüchten, die in den chaparralen Lebensraum eingeboren sind. Seine Stickstoff-Fixierfähigkeit hilft es, in felsigem, sandigem Boden zu gedeihen. Die Anlage eignet sich auch gut für eine Landschaft von Hügeln, Hängen und vor kurzem verbrannten Gebieten; Seine Wurzeln breiten sich schnell aus und helfen, den Boden zu verankern und Erosion zu verhindern.
