In der Philosophie und Logik ist die Kontingenz der Status von Sätzen, die bei jeder möglichen Bewertung weder wahr noch falsch sind. Zusammen mit kontingenten Sätzen gibt es mindestens drei andere Klassen von Sätzen, von denen einige sich überlappen: ▪ Tautologische Sätze, die wahr sein müssen, egal was die Umstände sind oder sein könnten. ▪ Widersprüche, die unbedingt unwahr sein müssen, egal was die Umstände sind oder sein könnten. ▪ Mögliche Sätze, die unter bestimmten Umständen wahr sind oder wahr sein könnten.
