Cystin
Cystin ist die Aminosäure, die durch die Oxidation von zwei Cysteinmolekülen gebildet wird, die über eine Disulfidbindung kovalent verknüpfen. Diese Organoschwefelverbindung hat die Formel (SCH2CH (NH2) CO2H) 2. Es ist ein weißer Feststoff, der in Wasser leicht löslich ist. Das menschliche Haar und die Haut enthalten etwa 10-14% Cystin. Es wurde im Jahre 1810 von William Hyde Wollaston entdeckt, wurde aber nicht als von Proteinen abgeleitet erkannt, bis es aus dem Horn einer Kuh im Jahre 1899 isoliert war.
