In der zweiten Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts hat Darnley die totale Umwandlung von einer bescheidenen halb-ländlichen Gemeinde erlebt, um ein wichtiger Teil der Antwort von Glasgow auf einen Nachkriegs-Wohnungsmangel zu werden. Nach dem Bau von großen Wohnungssystemen in South Nitshill und Kennishead, im Jahr 1968 die Stadt Glasgow genehmigt den Bau von 2.048 Wohnungen in Darnley. Diese Regelung sollte ein Gebiet nördlich von Nitshill Road von Leggatston Farm, Teil der ursprünglichen Darnley Estate in der Stadt Glasgow Grenzen im Jahr 1938 genommen zu besetzen. Über drei Phasen insgesamt 1.336 Deck-Zugang, zwei bis sieben geschossige Wohnung Blöcke wurden gebaut. Damit war die anfängliche Zahl aufgrund einer Kombination von wirtschaftlichen, politischen und Management-Rückschlägen nicht erreicht. Es war beabsichtigt, dass Darnley ein weitgehend selbsttragendes Gut sein würde und aus diesem Grund zwei Grundschulen und ein Gemeindezentrum zu den Plänen des Rates gehörten.
