Dendrit
Dendriten sind die verzweigten Projektionen eines Neurons, die die elektrochemische Stimulation, die von anderen neuralen Zellen erhalten wird, an den Zellkörper oder Soma des Neurons, von dem die Dendriten projizieren, ausbreiten. Die elektrische Stimulation wird auf Dendriten durch vorgeschaltete Neuronen über Synapsen übertragen, die sich an verschiedenen Stellen im gesamten dendritischen Baum befinden. Dendriten spielen eine entscheidende Rolle bei der Integration dieser synaptischen Inputs und bei der Bestimmung, inwieweit Aktionspotentiale durch das Neuron erzeugt werden. Lange Auswüchse des Immunsystems derdritischen Zellen werden auch Dendriten genannt. Diese sind nicht mit Dendriten auf einem Neuron zu verwechseln. Dendritische Zellen sind Antigen-präsentierende Zellen im Säugetier-Immunsystem. Ihre Dendriten verarbeiten keine elektrischen Signale. Dendriten sind eine von zwei Arten von protoplasmatischen Vorsprüngen, die aus dem Zellkörper eines Neurons extrudieren, wobei der andere Typ ein Axon ist. Axone können von dendriten durch mehrere Merkmale wie Form, Länge und Funktion unterschieden werden. Dendriten verjüngen sich oft in Form und sind kürzer, während Axone dazu neigen, einen konstanten Radius zu halten und relativ lang zu sein.
