Eine Depside ist eine Art von Polyphenolverbindung, die aus zwei oder mehr monocyclischen aromatischen Einheiten besteht, die durch eine Esterbindung verbunden sind. Depsiden werden am häufigsten in Flechten gefunden, aber auch von höheren Pflanzen isoliert, darunter Arten der Ericaceae, Lamiaceae, Papaveraceae und Myrtaceae. Depside haben Antibiotika, Anti-HIV, Antioxidans und anti-proliferative Aktivität. Als Inhibitoren der Prostaglandinsynthese und der Leukotrien-B4-Biosynthese sind Depside starke nicht-steroidale Entzündungshemmer. Eine Depsidase ist eine Art von Enzym, das Depside-Bindungen schneidet. Ein solches Enzym ist Tannase. Gyrophorsäure, gefunden in der Flechte Cryptothecia rubrocincta, ist eine depside.
