Der Desman, ein Snouted und nackt-tailed Tauchen Insektenfresser des Stammes Desmanini, gehört zu einer von zwei eurasischen Arten der Maulwurf Familie, Talpidae. Dieser Stamm besteht aus zwei monotypischen Gattungen von semiaquatischen Insektenfressern, die in Europa gefunden wurden. Einer in Russland und der andere in den Pyrenäen.
