Glucose
Glukose ist ein einfaches aldosisches Monosaccharid, das in Pflanzen gefunden wird. Es ist eines der drei diätetischen Monosaccharide, zusammen mit Fructose und Galactose, die während der Verdauung direkt in den Blutkreislauf aufgenommen werden. Die chemische D-Glukose wird manchmal als Dextrose bezeichnet, ein historischer Name, der sich aus einer rechtsdrehenden Glukose ergibt, weil eine Lösung von D-Glukose in Wasser die Ebene des polarisierten Lichts nach rechts dreht. Allerdings bezieht sich die D-in D-Glukose auf eine chirale chemische Ähnlichkeitseigenschaft in Zucker, nicht die Eigenschaft des rotierenden Lichts.
