Disability Rights Commission
Die Disability Rights Commission wurde 1999 von der britischen Labour-Regierung gegründet. Zu dieser Zeit war die DRK die britische Gleichstellungskommission neben der Kommission für Rassengleichheit und der Kommission für Chancengleichheit. Sein Vorsitzender von 2000 bis 2007 war Bert Massie. Die DRK wurde mit der Überprüfung des Gesetzes über die Diskriminierung von Behinderten beauftragt und empfiehlt ihre Änderung. Es hatte Rechte der Ermittlungen und Durchsetzung der Behindertengesetzgebung und war verantwortlich für die Beratung der Arbeitgeber, wie die Gleichbehandlung von behinderten Arbeitnehmer zu sichern. Die DRC ersetzte einen früheren und schwächeren Körper, den Nationalen Behindertenrat, der von den Konservativen in den 1990er Jahren gegründet wurde. Die Verabschiedung des Gleichstellungsgesetzes 2006 bedeutet, dass im Oktober 2007 die DRK durch eine neue Gleichstellungs- und Menschenrechtskommission mit Befugnissen über alle Gleichstellungsgesetze ersetzt wurde. Die DRK war eine nicht abteilungsübergreifende öffentliche Stelle der Abteilung für Arbeit und Renten. Sein Hauptsitz war im Zentrum von Manchester mit anderen Büros im Zentrum von London, Cardiff und Edinburgh.
