Dissens ist eine Stimmung oder Philosophie der Nicht-Vereinbarung oder Opposition gegen eine vorherrschende Idee oder eine Entität. Die Anonyme des Begriffs sind die Einverständniserklärung, der Konsens und die Zustimmung, wenn eine Partei einem Satz von einem anderen zustimmt. In einigen politischen Systemen kann der Dissens formell durch Oppositionspolitik ausgedrückt werden, während politisch repressive Regime jede Form von Meinungsverschiedenheiten verbieten können, was zur Unterdrückung von Dissens und zur Förderung des sozialen oder politischen Aktivismus führt. Mehrere Denker haben argumentiert, dass eine gesunde Gesellschaft nicht nur zu schützen, sondern auch um Dissens zu fördern. In einem bekannten Brief an Arnold Ruge im Jahre 1843 schrieb Karl Marx: "Wenn man die Zukunft baut und alles für alle Zeiten einsetzt, ist nicht unsere Angelegenheit, um so deutlicher, was wir heute erreichen müssen: Ich beziehe mich auf Rücksichtslose Kritik an allem, was existiert, rücksichtslos sowohl im Sinne der Angst vor den Ergebnissen, die es ankommt, als auch im Sinne von genauso wenig Angst vor dem Konflikt mit den Mächten, die sein werden ".
