Eine Doppelbindung in der Chemie ist eine chemische Bindung zwischen zwei chemischen Elementen mit vier Bindungselektronen anstelle der üblichen zwei. In der Skelettformel wird die Doppelbindung als zwei parallele Linien zwischen den beiden verbundenen Atomen gezeichnet; Typografisch wird das Gleichheitszeichen dafür verwendet. Doppelte Anleihen wurden zuerst in der chemischen Notation von prominenten russischen Chemiker Alexander Butlerov eingeführt. Doppelte Anleihen sind stärker als Einzelanleihen und sind auch kürzer. Die Bindungsordnung ist zwei. Doppelbindungen sind auch elektronenreich, was sie reaktiv macht.

A double bond in chemistry is a chemical bond between two chemical elements involving four bonding electrons instead of the usual two. In skeletal formula the double bond is drawn as two parallel lines between the two connected atoms; typographically, the equals sign is used for this. Double bonds have been first introduced in chemical notation by prominent Russian chemist Alexander Butlerov. Double bonds are stronger than single bonds and are also shorter. The bond order is two. Double bonds are also electron-rich, which makes them reactive.
