Jean de Dunois
Jean de Dunois, auch John von Orléans genannt, war der illegitime Sohn von Louis I, Herzog von Orléans, von Mariette d'Enghien. Sein Spitzname, der "Bastard von Orléans", war ein Respekt, denn er erkannte ihn als ersten Cousin für den König und spielte den Kopf eines Kadettenzweigs der königlichen Familie während der Halbwertszeit seines Halbbruders. Im Jahre 1439 erhielt er die Grafschaft Dunois von seinem Halbbruder, Karl, Herzog von Orléans, und später König Karl VII. Machte ihn Graf von Longueville. Jeans Vater starb im Jahre 1407. Sein legitimer Halbbruder, Charles, Herzog von Orléans, wurde ein englischer Gefangener in der Schlacht von Agincourt und blieb so für mehrere Jahrzehnte. Dies ließ ihm den einzigen freien erwachsenen Mann des Hauses von Orléans. Er war Ritter des Ordens des Stachelschweins. Jean trat in Zivilkrieg in Frankreich in der Zeit von Karl VI. Auf der Seite der Armagnacs ein und wurde von den Burgundern im Jahre 1418 gefangen genommen. Im Jahre 1420 erschien er in den Dienst des Dauphin Charles und kämpfte im Hundertjährigen Krieg gegen Englische Kräfte. Die zukünftige Zahl von Dunois führte die französische Verteidigung bei der Belagerung von Orléans. Zusammen mit Joan von Arc erleichterte er die Belagerung.
