Edom
Edom oder Idumea war eine halbbewohnte historische Region der südlichen Levante südlich von Judäa und dem Toten Meer. Es wird in biblischen Aufzeichnungen als ein 1. Jahrtausend v.Chr. Eisenzeitkönigreich von Edom erwähnt, und in der klassischen Antike wurde der kognitive Name Idumea verwendet, um sich auf einen kleineren Bereich in der gleichen Region zu beziehen. Der Name Edom bedeutet "rot" auf Hebräisch und wurde Esau, dem ältesten Sohn des hebräischen Patriarchen Isaak, gegeben, sobald er das "rote Häuschen" gegessen hat, das die Bibel in der Ironie an der Tatsache verwendete, dass er überall "rot" geboren wurde " Die Tora, Tanakh und das Neue Testament beschreiben also die Edomiter als Nachkommen von Esau.
