Epoxid
Ein Epoxid ist ein cyclischer Ether mit drei Ringatomen. Dieser Ring definiert ungefähr ein gleichseitiges Dreieck, das es stark belastet macht. Der gespannte Ring macht Epoxide reaktiver als andere Ether. Einfache Epoxide werden aus der Stammverbindung Ethylenoxid oder Oxiran, wie in Chlormethyloxiran, genannt. Als funktionelle Gruppe weisen Epoxide das Epoxypräfix auf, wie in der Verbindung 1,2-Epoxycycloheptan, die auch als Cycloheptenepoxid oder einfach als Cycloheptenoxid bezeichnet werden kann.
