Epoxy
Epoxy ist das gehärtete Endprodukt von Epoxidharzen, sowie ein umgangssprachlicher Name für die Epoxid-funktionelle Gruppe. Epoxy ist auch ein allgemeiner Name für eine Art starken Klebstoff, der zum Kleben von Sachen zusammen verwendet wird und Oberflächen bedeckt, typischerweise zwei Harze, die vor dem Gebrauch miteinander vermischt werden müssen. Epoxidharze, auch Polyepoxide genannt, sind eine Klasse reaktiver Prepolymere und Polymere, die Epoxidgruppen enthalten. Epoxidharze können entweder mit sich selbst durch katalytische Homopolymerisation oder mit einem breiten Bereich von Co-Reaktanten einschließlich polyfunktioneller Amine, Säuren, Phenole, Alkohole und Thiole umgesetzt werden. Diese Co-Reaktanten werden oft als Härter oder Härtungsmittel bezeichnet und die Vernetzungsreaktion wird üblicherweise als Härtung bezeichnet. Die Umsetzung von Polyepoxiden mit sich selbst oder mit polyfunktionellen Härtern bildet ein wärmehärtbares Polymer, oft mit starken mechanischen Eigenschaften sowie hoher Temperatur- und Chemikalienbeständigkeit. Epoxy hat eine breite Palette von industriellen Anwendungen, einschließlich Metallbeschichtungen, Einsatz in elektronischen und elektrischen Komponenten, Hochspannungs-Elektro-Isolatoren, faserverstärkte Kunststoff-Materialien und strukturelle Klebstoffe.
