Erosion
Erosion ist der Prozess, durch den Boden und Gestein von der Erdoberfläche durch exogene Prozesse wie Wind- oder Wasserströmung entfernt und dann an anderen Orten transportiert und deponiert werden. Wasser und Wind Erosion sind nun die beiden Hauptursachen der Landdegradation; Kombiniert sind sie für etwa 84% des weltweiten Ausmaßes des abgebauten Landes verantwortlich und machen eine übermäßige Erosion zu einem der bedeutendsten Umweltprobleme weltweit. Industrielle Landwirtschaft, Entwaldung, Straßen, anthropogener Klimawandel und Zersiedelung der Stadt gehören zu den bedeutendsten menschlichen Aktivitäten in Bezug auf ihre Wirkung auf die Stimulierung der Erosion.
