Gemeine Kröte
Die gemeinsame Kröte, die europäische Kröte oder in den anglophonen Teilen Europas, einfach die Kröte, ist eine Amphibie, die in ganz Europa, im westlichen Teil Nordasiens und in einem kleinen Teil Nordwestafrikas gefunden wird. Es ist eine Gruppe von eng verwandten Tieren, die von einer gemeinsamen Ahnenlinie von Kröten abstammen und die einen Spezieskomplex bilden. Die Kröte ist ein unauffälliges Tier, wie es gewöhnlich während des Tages verborgen liegt. Es wird aktiv in der Dämmerung und verbringt die Nacht Jagd für die Wirbellosen, auf denen es füttert. Es bewegt sich mit einem langsamen, unangenehmen Spaziergang oder kurzen Sprüngen und hat graubraune Haut mit wartartigen Klumpen bedeckt. Obwohl in der Regel ein einsames Tier, in der Brutsaison eine große Anzahl von Kröten konvergieren auf bestimmte Zucht Teiche, wo die Männer konkurrieren, um mit den Frauen zu paaren. Eier werden in gallertartigen Saiten im Wasser gelegt und später in Kaulquappen geschluckt. Nach einigen Monaten Wachstum und Entwicklung, diese Sprossen Gliedmaßen und unterziehen Metamorphose in winzigen Kröten. Die Jungtiere tauchen aus dem Wasser auf und bleiben für den Rest ihres Lebens weitgehend terrestrisch.
