Fabius Maximus
Quintus Fabius Maximus Verrucosus Cunctator war ein römischer Politiker und General, der um 280 v.Chr. In Rom geboren wurde und im Jahre 203 v.Chr. In Rom starb. Er war ein römischer Konsul fünfmal und wurde zweimal zum Dictator ernannt, 221 und wieder im Jahre 217 v. Chr. Er erreichte das Büro des römischen Zensors im Jahre 230 v.Chr. Sein Agnomen Cunctator bedeutet "delayer" im Lateinischen und bezieht sich auf seine Taktik bei der Entführung der Truppen während des Zweiten Punischen Krieges. Er ist weithin als der Vater des Guerillakrieges angesehen, weil er damals eine neuartige Strategie verfolgt hat, feindliche Versorgungsleitungen im Hinblick auf das weitgehend unterlegene Ziel zu richten. Sein Cognomen Verrucosus bedeutet "warty", ein Hinweis auf eine Warze über seiner Oberlippe.
