Gambit
Ein Gambit ist eine Schach-Eröffnung, in der ein Spieler, öfter Weiß, Material, in der Regel einen Bauern, mit der Hoffnung, eine daraus resultierende vorteilhafte Position zu erreichen, opfert. Einige bekannte Beispiele sind das Gambit des Königs, das Gambit der Königin und Evans Gambit. Ein Gambit, das von Black benutzt wird, kann auch als Gambit bezeichnet werden, wird aber manchmal auch als "Countergambit" bezeichnet. Das Wort "Gambit" wurde ursprünglich auf Schachöffnungen im Jahre 1561 von dem spanischen Priester Ruy López de Segura angewendet, von einem italienischen Ausdruck wagte il gambetto. Lopez studierte dieses Manöver, und so gewann das italienische Wort die spanische Form gámbito, die zum französischen Gambit führte, das die englische Schreibweise des Wortes beeinflusst hat. Das breitere Gefühl der "Eröffnungsbewegung bedeutete, um Vorteil zu gewinnen" wurde erstmals 1855 in englischer Sprache aufgenommen.
