Gerbera
Gerbera L. ist eine Gattung von Zierpflanzen aus der Sonnenblumenfamilie. Es wurde zu Ehren des deutschen Botanikers und Naturforschers Traugott Gerber benannt, der ausgiebig in Rußland reiste und ein Freund von Carolus Linnaeus war. Es hat etwa 30 Arten in der Wildnis, die sich nach Südamerika, Afrika und tropischen Asien. Die erste wissenschaftliche Beschreibung einer Gerbera wurde von J.D. Hooker in Curtis 'Botanical Magazine im Jahre 1889 gemacht, als er Gerbera jamesonii, eine südafrikanische Art, die auch als Transvaal Daisy oder Barberton Daisy bekannt ist, beschrieb. Gerbera ist auch allgemein bekannt als das afrikanische Gänseblümchen. Gerbera-Arten tragen ein großes Kapitulum mit markanten, zweiflügeligen Blüten in gelben, orange, weißen, rosa oder roten Farben. Das Kapitulum, das das Aussehen einer einzigen Blume hat, besteht eigentlich aus Hunderten von einzelnen Blumen. Die Morphologie der Blüten variiert je nach ihrer Position im Capitulum. Die Blumenköpfe können so klein wie 7 cm im Durchmesser oder bis zu 12 cm sein. Gerbera ist sehr beliebt und weit verbreitet als dekorative Gartenpflanze oder als Schnittblumen verwendet.
