Der Begriff Geriatrie kommt aus dem griechischen γέρων geron bedeutet "alter Mann" und ιατρός iatros bedeutet "Heiler". Allerdings wird die Geriatrie manchmal auch als medizinische Gerontologie bezeichnet.
