Giraffe
Die Giraffe ist ein afrikanisches Wildtier-Huftier-Säugetier, das höchste lebende terrestrische Tier und der größte Wiederkäuer. Sein Artenname bezieht sich auf sein Kamel-ähnliches Aussehen und die Flecken der Farbe auf seinem Fell. Seine Hauptunterscheidungsmerkmale sind die extrem langen Nacken und Beine, die hornartigen Ossikone und die unverwechselbaren Fellmuster. Es ist unter der Familie Giraffidae, zusammen mit seinem engsten erhaltenen Verwandten, die Okapi. Die neun Unterarten zeichnen sich durch ihre Mantelmuster aus. Die Strecke der Giraffe reicht von Tschad im Norden bis Südafrika im Süden und von Niger im Westen bis Somalia im Osten. Giraffen leben in der Regel Savannen, Wiesen und offene Wälder. Ihre primäre Nahrungsquelle ist Akazienblätter, die sie in Höhen durchsuchen, die meisten anderen Pflanzenfresser nicht erreichen können. Giraffen werden von Löwen angegriffen; Ihre Kälber werden auch von Leoparden, gefleckten Hyänen und wilden Hunden gezielt. Erwachsene Giraffen haben keine starken sozialen Bindungen, obwohl sie sich in losen Aggregationen versammeln, wenn sie sich in der gleichen Richtung bewegen.
