Der Gnu ist auch eine Antilope in der Gattung Connochaetes. Es gehört zur Familie Bovidae, die Antilopen, Vieh, Ziegen, Schafe und andere gleichgeborene Hornhirten enthält. Connochaetes umfasst zwei Arten, die beide in Afrika gebürtig sind: der schwarze Gnus oder der Weißschwanz-Gnu; Und die blaue Wildebeest, oder brindled Gnu.
