Das Great Rift Valley ist ein Name, der im späten 19. Jahrhundert vom britischen Entdecker John Walter Gregory zum kontinuierlichen geographischen Graben, ungefähr 6.000 Kilometer lang, der von Nord-Syrien bis zum zentralen Mosambik in Südost-Afrika verläuft, gegeben ist.
