Angelsächsisches Recht
Das angelsächsische Gesetz ist eine Körperschaft von schriftlichen Regeln und Bräuchen, die während der angelsächsischen Zeit in England vor der normannischen Eroberung vorhanden waren. Diese Rechtsordnung, zusammen mit dem frühen skandinavischen Recht und dem kontinental-germanischen Recht, stieg aus einer Familie von altgermanischem Brauch und Rechtsdenken ab. Allerdings unterscheiden sich die angelsächsischen Gesetzescodes von anderen frühen germanischen Rechtsstreitigkeiten - bekannt als die Leges barbarorum - zum Teil weil sie in angelsächsisch geschrieben wurden, anstatt im Lateinischen. Die Gesetze der Angelsachsen waren die zweite im mittelalterlichen Westeuropa nach denen der Iren, die in einer anderen Sprache als dem Lateinischen ausgedrückt wurden.
