Die Standardenthalpie der Reaktion ist die Enthalpieänderung, die in einem System auftritt, wenn ein Mol Materie durch eine chemische Reaktion unter Standardbedingungen transformiert wird. Für eine generische chemische Reaktion - vA A + -vB B + ... → vP P + vQ Q ... bezieht sich die Standardenthalpie der Reaktion ΔHr related auf die Standardenthalpie der Bildung ΔHfo der Reaktanten und Produkte durch die folgende Gleichung : In dieser Gleichung ist vB die stöchiometrische Zahl der Entität B. Eine ähnliche Enthalpieänderung ist die Standardenthalpie der Bildung, die für eine Vielzahl von Substanzen bestimmt wurde. Die Enthalpieänderung jeglicher Reaktion unter irgendwelchen Bedingungen kann berechnet werden, da die Standardenthalpie der Bildung der Reaktanten und Produkte vorliegt. Es ist definiert als die Menge an Wärme, die bei der Umwandlung der Reaktanten bei einer gegebenen Temperatur und einem Druck in die Produkte bei der gleichen Temperatur und dem Druck absorbiert oder entwickelt wird. Enthalpie einer Reaktion bei konstantem Druck und bei konstantem Volumen: Die Enthalpie einer Reaktion hängt von den Bedingungen ab, unter denen die Reaktion durchgeführt wird.
