Das Houting ist eine ausgestorbene Fischart in der Familie Salmonidae. Diese Art unterscheidet sich durch eine lange, spitze Schnauze, einen minderwertigen Mund und 38-46 Kiemenrakers. Das houting kam einmal in Belgien, Frankreich, Deutschland, den Niederlanden und England auf. Houting Head 'Houtings' sollen in Dänemark überleben. Neue Untersuchungen zeigten jedoch, dass "Houtings" aus dem dänischen Nordseebecken und deutschen Flüssen Coregonus maraena sind. Der Rhein enthält Coregonus maraena, die eingeführt wurden und eine noch unbeschriebene Spezies namens Coregonus sp. 'Rhein'. Der letzte wahre Houting wurde 1940 im Niederrhein gefangen.
