Intermodulation oder Intermodulationsverzerrung ist die Amplitudenmodulation von Signalen, die zwei oder mehr unterschiedliche Frequenzen in einem System mit Nichtlinearitäten enthalten. Die Intermodulation zwischen jeder Frequenzkomponente bildet zusätzliche Signale bei Frequenzen, die nicht nur bei harmonischen Frequenzen von entweder, sondern auch bei den Summen- und Differenzfrequenzen der ursprünglichen Frequenzen und bei Vielfachen dieser Summen- und Differenzfrequenzen liegen. Die Intermodulation wird durch das nichtlineare Verhalten der verwendeten Signalverarbeitung verursacht. Das theoretische Ergebnis dieser Nichtlinearitäten kann durch Erzeugen einer Volterra-Reihe der Charakteristik berechnet werden, während die übliche Annäherung dieser Nichtlinearitäten durch Erzeugen einer Taylor-Reihe erhalten wird. Intermodulation ist bei der Radio- oder Audioverarbeitung nur selten wünschenswert, da es unerwünschte Störaussionen erzeugt, oft in Form von Seitenbändern. Bei Funkübertragungen erhöht sich die belegte Bandbreite, was zu benachbarten Kanalinterferenzen führt, was die Klangqualität verringern oder die Frequenznutzung erhöhen kann.
