Jansenismus
Der Jansenismus war eine christliche theologische Bewegung, vor allem in Frankreich, die die ursprüngliche Sünde, die menschliche Verderbtheit, die Notwendigkeit der göttlichen Gnade und die Prädestination betonte. Die Bewegung entstand aus dem posthum veröffentlichten Werk des holländischen Theologen Cornelius Jansen, der 1638 starb. Es wurde zuerst von Jansens Freund Jean du Vergier, Abbé de Saint-Cyran und nach dem Tod von du Vergier im Jahre 1643, von Antoine Arnauld geführt . Durch den 17. und in den 18. Jahrhundert war der Jansenismus eine deutliche Bewegung innerhalb der katholischen Kirche. Das theologische Zentrum der Bewegung war das Pariser Kloster von Port-Royal, das ein Paradies für Schriftsteller war, darunter du Vergier, Arnauld, Pierre Nicole, Blaise Pascal und Jean Racine. Der Jansenismus wurde von vielen in der katholischen Hierarchie, vor allem den Jesuiten, entgegengesetzt. Obwohl die Jansenisten sich nur als rigorose Anhänger von Augustinus von Hippos Lehren identifizierten, prägten die Jesuiten den Begriff "Jansenismus", um sie als kalvinistische Affinitäten zu identifizieren.
