Wahrscheinlichkeitsdichtefunktion
In der Wahrscheinlichkeitstheorie ist eine Wahrscheinlichkeitsdichtefunktion oder Dichte einer kontinuierlichen Zufallsvariable eine Funktion, die die relative Wahrscheinlichkeit für diese Zufallsvariable beschreibt, einen gegebenen Wert anzunehmen. Die Wahrscheinlichkeit, daß die zufällige Variable, die in einen bestimmten Wertebereich fällt, durch das Integral der Dichte dieser Variablen über diesen Bereich gegeben ist, dh sie ist gegeben durch die Fläche unter der Dichtefunktion, aber oberhalb der horizontalen Achse und zwischen dem niedrigsten und dem größten Werte des Bereichs. Die Wahrscheinlichkeitsdichtefunktion ist überall nichtnegativ, und ihr Integral über den gesamten Raum ist gleich eins. Die Begriffe "Wahrscheinlichkeitsverteilungsfunktion" und "Wahrscheinlichkeitsfunktion" wurden auch manchmal verwendet, um die Wahrscheinlichkeitsdichtefunktion zu bezeichnen. Diese Verwendung ist jedoch nicht unter Wahrscheinlichkeiten und Statistiker. In anderen Quellen kann "Wahrscheinlichkeitsverteilungsfunktion" verwendet werden, wenn die Wahrscheinlichkeitsverteilung als eine Funktion über allgemeine Mengen von Werten definiert ist, oder sie kann sich auf die kumulative Verteilungsfunktion beziehen, oder sie kann eher eine Wahrscheinlichkeitsmassenfunktion als die Dichte sein.
