Das Buch von Josua oder Buch von Jehosua ist das sechste Buch in der hebräischen Bibel und dem christlichen Alten Testament. Seine 24 Kapitel erzählen von dem Eintritt der Israeliten in Kanaan, ihre Eroberung und Teilung des Landes unter der Führung von Josua und der Gottesdienste im Lande. Josua ist Teil der biblischen Darstellung der Entstehung Israels, die mit dem Exodus der Israeliten von der Sklaverei in Ägypten beginnt, fährt mit dem Buch von Josua fort und gipfelt im Buch der Richter mit der Eroberung und Besiedlung des Landes. Das Buch ist in zwei ungefähr gleichen Teilen. Der erste Teil zeigt die Kampagnen der Israeliten im zentralen, südlichen und nördlichen Kanaan sowie die Zerstörung ihrer Feinde. Der zweite Teil beschreibt die Teilung des eroberten Landes unter den zwölf Stämmen. Die beiden Teile werden von Satzstücken von Gott und Josua umrahmt, die die Eroberung befehlen und am Ende die Notwendigkeit einer treuen Einhaltung des Gesetzes, das Mose offenbart wurde, warnen. Fast alle Gelehrten sind sich einig, dass das Buch von Josua für den frühen Israel wenig historischen Wert hat und höchstwahrscheinlich eine viel spätere Zeitspanne widerspiegelt.

The Book of Joshua or Book of Jehoshua is the sixth book in the Hebrew Bible and the Christian Old Testament. Its 24 chapters tell of the entry of the Israelites into Canaan, their conquest and division of the land under the leadership of Joshua, and of serving God in the land. Joshua forms part of the biblical account of the emergence of Israel, which begins with the exodus of the Israelites from slavery in Egypt, continues with the book of Joshua, and culminates in the Book of Judges with the conquest and settlement of the land. The book is in two roughly equal parts. The first part depicts the campaigns of the Israelites in central, southern and northern Canaan, as well as the destruction of their enemies. The second part details the division of the conquered land among the twelve tribes. The two parts are framed by set-piece speeches by God and Joshua commanding the conquest and at the end warning of the need for faithful observance of the Law revealed to Moses. Almost all scholars agree that the book of Joshua holds little historical value for early Israel and most likely reflects a much later period.
