Kerogen
Kerogen ist eine Mischung aus organisch-chemischen Verbindungen, die einen Teil der organischen Substanz in Sedimentgesteinen ausmachen. Es ist in normalen organischen Lösungsmitteln wegen des hohen Molekulargewichts seiner Komponentenverbindungen unlöslich. Der lösliche Anteil ist als Bitumen bekannt. Bei der Erwärmung auf die richtigen Temperaturen in der Erdkruste, einige Arten von Kerosie Freisetzung von Rohöl oder Erdgas, zusammen als Kohlenwasserstoffe bekannt. Wenn solche Kerogene in hoher Konzentration in Gesteinen wie Schiefer vorhanden sind, bilden sie mögliche Quellengesteine. Schuppen, die reich an Kerogenen sind, die nicht auf eine wärmere Temperatur erhitzt worden sind, um ihre Kohlenwasserstoffe freizusetzen, können Ölschieferablagerungen bilden. Der Name "kerogen" wurde von dem schottischen Bio-Chemiker Alexander Crum Brown im Jahre 1906 eingeführt.
