Knowledge Engineering wurde 1983 von Edward Feigenbaum und Pamela McCorduck wie folgt definiert: KE ist eine Ingenieurdisziplin, die die Integration von Wissen in Computersysteme beinhaltet, um komplexe Probleme zu lösen, die normalerweise ein hohes Maß an menschlichem Fachwissen erfordern.
