Der physikalische Mechanismus hinter dem knallenden oder knackenden Klang, der beim Knacken von Gelenken wie Knöcheln gehört wird, ist noch ungewiss, obwohl es allgemein angenommen wird, dass es durch Synovialflüssigkeit verursacht wird, die das Vakuum füllt, das durch die Verschiebung des Gelenks zurückgelassen wird.
