Amorpha canescens
Amorpha canescens ist ein 30-90 cm großer Laubstrauch in der Erbsenfamilie, die in Nordamerika heimisch ist. Es hat sehr kleine lila Blüten, die in Trauben gruppiert sind. Die zusammengesetzten Blätter dieser Pflanze erscheinen aufgrund ihrer dichten Behaarung bleierlich. Die Wurzeln können tiefer als 1,2 Meter wachsen. Diese Pflanze kann man in gut durchlässigen Böden von Prairien, Bluffs und offenen Wäldern wachsen. Leadplant wurde von verschiedenen indigenen Völkern verwendet, um eine Reihe von medizinischen Problemen zu behandeln. Darüber hinaus benutzte die Oglala die Blätter sowohl als Tee als auch als Raucher-Mischung, wenn sie mit Büffelfleisch kombiniert wurde. Amorpha canescens wurde für die Wissenschaft von Frederick Pursh im Jahre 1814 beschrieben. Canescens ist ein botanischer lateinischer Begriff bedeutet "grau".
