In der Mathematik ist eine lineare Ordnung, Gesamtordnung, einfache Ordnung oder Ordnung eine binäre Relation auf einem Satz X, der transitiv, antisymmetrisch und total ist. Ein Satz, der mit einer Gesamtbestellung gepaart ist, heißt ein völlig geordneter Satz, ein linear geordneter Satz, ein einfach geordneter Satz oder eine Kette. Wenn X unter ≤ vollständig geordnet ist, so gelten für alle a, b und c in X die folgenden Aussagen: wenn a ≤ b und b ≤ a dann a = b; Wenn a ≤ b und b ≤ c dann a ≤ c; Entweder a ≤ b oder b ≤ a. Die Antisymmetrie beseitigt unsichere Fälle, wenn beide a vor B und B vorangehen. Eine Relation mit der Eigenschaft der "Totalität" bedeutet, dass jedes Paar von Elementen in der Menge der Beziehung unter der Beziehung vergleichbar ist. Dies bedeutet auch, dass das Set als eine Zeile von Elementen dargestellt werden kann, was ihm den Namen linear gibt. Totalität bedeutet auch Reflexivität, d.h. a ≤ a. Daher ist eine Gesamtbestellung auch eine partielle Bestellung.
