Lories und Lorikeets sind kleine bis mittelgroße Birnpapageien, die durch ihre spezialisierten Pinselspitzen gekennzeichnet sind, um Nektar von verschiedenen Blüten und weichen Früchten, vorzugsweise Beeren, zu ernähren. Die Arten bilden eine monophyletische Gruppe innerhalb der Papageienfamilie Psittacidae.
