Lysogener Zyklus
Lysogenese oder der lysogene Zyklus ist eine von zwei Methoden der viralen Reproduktion. Lysogenie ist gekennzeichnet durch die Integration der Bakteriophagen-Nukleinsäure in das Genom des Wirtsbakteriums oder die Bildung eines kreisförmigen Replikons im Bakterienzytoplasma. In diesem Zustand wird das Bakterium weiterhin normal leben und reproduzieren. Das genetische Material des Bakteriophagen, genannt Prophage, kann bei jeder nachfolgenden Zellteilung an die Tochterzellen übertragen werden, und ein späteres Ereignis kann es freisetzen, wodurch die Proliferation neuer Phagen über den lytischen Zyklus verursacht wird. Lysogene Zyklen können auch bei Eukaryonten auftreten, obwohl die Methode der DNA-Inkorporation nicht vollständig verstanden wird. Die Unterscheidung zwischen lysogenen und lytischen Zyklen ist, dass die Ausbreitung der viralen DNA durch die übliche prokaryotische Reproduktion auftritt, während der lytische Phage durch die Produktion von Tausenden von einzelnen Phagen, die in der Lage sind, andere Zellen zu überleben und zu infizieren, verbreitet wird. Der entscheidende Unterschied zwischen dem lytischen Zyklus und dem lysogenen Zyklus besteht darin, dass der lysogene Zyklus die Wirtszelle nicht lysiert.
