Alle Hauptsequenzsterne befinden sich im hydrostatischen Gleichgewicht, wobei der äußere thermische Druck des heißen Kerns durch den nach innen gerichteten Gravitationsdruck von den darüberliegenden Schichten ausgeglichen wird. Die starke Abhängigkeit der Energieerzeugungsrate im Kern auf Temperatur und Druck trägt dazu bei, diese Balance zu sichern. Energie, die am Kern erzeugt wird, macht seinen Weg zur Oberfläche und wird an der Photosphäre abgestrahlt.
