Maximalwahrscheinlichkeits
In der Statistik ist die Maximum-Likelihood-Schätzung eine Methode zur Schätzung der Parameter eines statistischen Modells. Bei der Anwendung auf einen Datensatz und bei einem statistischen Modell liefert die Maximum-Likelihood-Schätzung Schätzungen für die Parameter des Modells. Die Methode der maximalen Wahrscheinlichkeit entspricht vielen bekannten Schätzmethoden in der Statistik. Zum Beispiel kann man sich für die Höhen der erwachsenen weiblichen Pinguine interessieren, aber nicht in der Lage sein, die Höhe jedes einzelnen Pinguins in einer Population aufgrund von Kosten oder zeitlichen Einschränkungen zu messen. Unter der Annahme, dass die Höhen normalerweise mit einem unbekannten Mittelwert und einer Varianz verteilt sind, können der Mittelwert und die Varianz mit MLE geschätzt werden, während nur die Höhen einer Stichprobe der Gesamtbevölkerung bekannt sind. MLE würde dies erreichen, indem man den Mittelwert und die Varianz als Parameter annimmt und bestimmte parametrische Werte findet, die die beobachteten Ergebnisse am wahrscheinlichsten machen. Im Allgemeinen wird für einen festen Satz von Daten und zugrunde liegenden statistischen Modell die Methode der maximalen Wahrscheinlichkeit die Menge der Werte der Modellparameter, die die Wahrscheinlichkeitsfunktion maximiert, auswählt.
