Memnon (Mythologie)
In der griechischen Mythologie war Memnon ein äthiopischer König und Sohn von Tithonus und Eos. Als Krieger wurde er als fast Achilles gleichermaßen geschickt angesehen. Während des Trojanischen Krieges brachte er eine Armee zu Troys Verteidigung. Der Tod von Memnon widerspricht dem von Hector, einem anderen Verteidiger von Troja, den Achilles auch aus Rache für einen gefallenen Kameraden, Patroclus, getötet hat. Nach Memnons Tod wurde Zeus von Eos Tränen bewegt und ihm Unsterblichkeit gewährt. Memnons Tod ist endlich in der verlorenen epischen Aethiopis verwandt, die nach der Ilias um das 7. Jahrhundert v. Chr. Komponiert wurde. Quintus von Smyrna notiert Memnons Tod in Posthomerica. Sein Tod ist auch in Philostratus 'Imagines beschrieben.
