Mikrometer
Ein Mikrometer, der manchmal als Mikrometer-Schraubendreher bekannt ist, ist eine Vorrichtung, die eine kalibrierte Schraube enthält, die weithin für die präzise Messung von Bauteilen im Maschinenbau und in der Bearbeitung sowie in den meisten mechanischen Fertigkeiten verwendet wird, zusammen mit anderen metrologischen Instrumenten wie Zifferblatt, Nonius und Digital Bremssätteln. Mikrometer sind in der Regel, aber nicht immer, in Form von Bremssätteln, weshalb Mikrometer Bremssattel ein anderer allgemeiner Name ist. Die Spindel ist eine sehr genau bearbeitete Schraube und das zu messende Objekt wird zwischen Spindel und Amboss gelegt. Die Spindel wird durch Drehen des Ratschenknopfes oder -falzes bewegt, bis das zu messende Objekt von der Spindel und dem Amboß leicht berührt wird. Mikrometer werden auch in Teleskopen oder Mikroskopen verwendet, um den scheinbaren Durchmesser von Himmelskörpern oder mikroskopischen Objekten zu messen. Das mit einem Teleskop verwendete Mikrometer wurde um 1638 von William Gascoigne, einem englischen Astronomen, erfunden. Umgangssprachlich wird das Wort Mikrometer oft zu Mikrofon oder Mikrofon verkürzt.
